is the founding member of The Powell Firm – Texas Trial Lawyers PLLC, based in Houston. With two decades of legal experience, Mr. Powell is dedicated to defending the innocent and has built a reputation for his commitment to justice. A graduate of Towson University in Baltimore, Mr. Powell earned his law degree from the historic Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston. In 2016, he was elected by the people of Harris County, Texas, to serve as Judge of the 351st District Court, where he presided over serious felony cases, including capital murders, aggravated assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, crimes against children, and drug offenses.
In January 2019, Mr. Powell was elected by his peers to serve as the Judge of the Harris County Felony Veterans’ Treatment Court (VTC). The VTC provides an alternative to traditional felony court by focusing on the treatment and rehabilitation of veterans who have honorably served their country. The court addresses issues such as drug and alcohol dependency, PTSD, and other mental health concerns, offering veterans a chance to resolve their legal issues without a felony conviction.
After completing his term in 2020, Mr. Powell returned to private practice in January 2021, founding the Powell Firm – Texas Trial Lawyers PLLC in Houston’s historic 3rd Ward.
